Wear Fashion Inspired by Montreal Art | Nathon Kong X Tourisme Montréal 2022
Montreal is a city where you will find art everywhere, from the murals that adorn our buildings to the music in the street and metro stations. Who wouldn't want to carry a piece of the city with them? That is why Nathon Kong has teamed up with Tourisme Montréal to harness the creative energy of the city and tell the stories of the community with fashion that is as meaningful as it is artful. We collaborate with different Montreal organizations and artists to make exclusive artworks into something you can wear. Scroll to the end of this article to learn about the mission of Nathon Kong.
History in the Walls of Montreal: Rafael Sottolichio's Façades
Rafael Sottolichio is a Montreal painter of Chilean origin whose mainly figurative work emphasizes the contrasts between figurative statements and matter, texture, and abstraction. Tourisme Montréal commissioned the organization MU to create the Façades mural on 1134-1140, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest as part of Tourisme Montréal's 100th anniversary celebration. Like many of the murals in Montreal, Façades is a piece that gives Montreal tourists a sense of the city's spirit. This bouquet of flowers evokes the dynamism of the city and celebrates the resilience and creativity of Montrealers. The trompe-l'oeil facades are a testament to Montreal's built heritage, while the blue background and coloured shapes are complemented by images that recall the city's visual iconography. The heterogeneous nature of the forms—some recognizable, others purely abstract—evokes the complexity of the world in which we live and encourages passers-by to see the world differently, beyond the façades. With the Façades mural, the friendly and festive spirit of Montrealers will continue to shine well beyond the pandemic.
Joy & Art on the Horizon of Montreal: Max Noiseux's Champlain Bridge at Sunrise.
This painting by Max Noiseux was inspired by both an architectural and natural wonder in the city of Montreal: the skyline over Champlain bridge during the sun rise. The brush strokes imitate smiley faces over the sky to symbolize the artful and joyful city that is Montreal. It gives hope for better years to come, especially after the Pandemic.
